The Key to a Great Green Bean Casserole

Thanksgiving is only a few days away.  I’ve seen so many fantastic posts from fellow bloggers gearing up for this weeks foodie fest.  I didn’t cook Thanksgiving for the past couple of years, though I did contribute a couple pans of green bean casserole, so I don’t have any great wisdom to bestow on anybody except for this one offering.  If you’re going to make a green bean casserole this year, fry your own onions!  It can be done ahead of time and makes a massive difference.  I also made a spicy casserole last year, adding fried jalapeños into the mix, amazing.  Here’s a quick guide of how to make some fried onions (or jalapeños): Continue reading

Chardonnay & Onion Soup

When I used to live in wine country I always had some leftover red and white lying around somewhere.  One day, after picking up a lot of onions at the farmers market, I decided to make onion soup.  I had run out of vegetable stock but I had plenty of wine that needed to be used.  My chardonnay onion soup was born.  You can use other varietals if you so choose, that was what I happened to have that particular afternoon. Getaway Grill Out “The Art of Asado”

We had a chance to get away this weekend.  Once we arrived at our destination and saw the opportunity to fire up a grill, I made a quick stop at a local market.  Grilling is one of my favorite ways to cook.  It’s very social and everything tastes amazing with a little fire underneath it.  Origins of “The Art of Asado” are as follows: man made fire, man dropped food in fire, food tasted better, man made grill and bought a cooler full of beer, the end.
